On October 15th, 2021, the bi-yearly DAP Symposium took place. Our colleague Dirk Brinkgreve gave a very interesting presentation about Geothermal Safety Systems to Enhance Social Acceptance.
Short summary of the presentation:
Safety and no damaging impact on the environment are preconditions for acceptance of geothermal energy by the public and to make it scalable. The role of project-specific Risk Assessment is the foundation of all processes and security of humans and the environment. The presentation gave an overview of the mandatory HSE-related aspects covered during the drilling and production phase including the document deliveries for a drilling project. Special attention was given to the method used within WEP to prepare Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) and the impact of the ‘Leidraad Putontwerp Geothermie’.
Furthermore, attention was given to the implementation of Well Integrity Management Systems and the importance to improve geothermal production monitoring to ensure safe operations as optimally possible for a duration of a 30+ year life cycle.
Special thanks to DAP Symposium’s organization for hosting this event. See you at the next edition!
