CASING WEAR ALLOWANCE & WELL LIFE EXPECTANCY

Casing wear and reduction of casing mechanical limits is a continuous concern during the exploitation phase by the process of erosion and the natural effect of corrosion as well as during drilling and well interventions due to e.g. workstring damage, Casing integrity relies highly on the preliminary casing design, to withstand all the operations. Analysis, interpretation and trending of periodic casing surveys as well as FEA calculations on local damages will provides more insight of the casing integrity and can be evaluated against the well exploitation load cases in order to predict well life expectancy.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF CASING WEAR ALLOWANCE IN PRACTICE

Studies derived from interpretated logging data and calculated well life expectancy can be made to confirm expectations, to adjust , or to continue well maintenance philosophy for each individual well.

-Casing wear study provided insight for a geothermal operator e.g. to adjust corrosion inhibitor dosage, in order to improve the active protection strategy against corrosion-causing reactions inside the well.
-Casing stress studies provided detailed documentation on maximum working limits for production and injection wells for geothermal operators.

Abandonment of three wells in Tønder (DK)

Well Engineering Partners has successfully designed and concluded execution of the permanent abandonment of three wells in Tønder (TN-3, 4, & 5), Denmark. These wells were drilled in the 1980s for gas storage and had been shut in since then. The abandonment operations involved detailed preparatory work, wireline investigation operations and final P&A operations by […]
