Other: Nagra Drilling Exploration Wells
Project Description
WEP has supported the Nagra (National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste) to drill nine boreholes to carry out detailed investigations of the rock formations in potential repository sites of Jura Ost, Nördlich Lägern, and Zürich Nordost.
The boreholes provided direct insight into the underground geological environment and its structure. The drilling was highly scientific, with extensive core drilling and testing. The boreholes were between 1300 and 1500m deep.
From January 2018 until October 2018 WEP supported Nagra with the preparations of the drilling campaign. The planned casing design was checked with Landmark software and a drilling risk assessment was performed. WEP assisted with the tendering of the drilling rig contractor and coring services. WEP provided a HSE manager that provided HSE management (HSE conference, Safety case, DWOP) for all the drilling operations.
As of November 2018 (preparation and mobilization of equipment) to August 2022 (end of the drilling campaign), WEP provided drilling supervision support for Nagra. Initially, one drilling rig was in operation, later expanding to two rigs. The (Night) Drilling Supervisor’s role included supervising the drilling operation, coring, and test work on behalf of Nagra. The DSV monitored the safety and compliance with Swiss standards, coordinating logistics, and preparing daily drilling reports. Additionally, WEP provided a HSE Manager and an acting Drilling Manager.
Role of WEP
