Salt: Frisia BAS-1 Final Abandonment
Project Description
In March 2026, WEP has successfully completed the BAS-1 Plug & Abandonment (P&A) operations for Frisia Zout B.V. (part of the K+S Gruppe).
Building on the previously installed barriers during a workover campaign in 2024, this operation focused on casing retrieval and setting abandonment plugs in accordance with regulatory requirements by isolating all zones with flow potential. These operations were performed with the 600K Hydraulic Workover Unit (HWU) provided by Balance Point Control (BPC).
During execution, the 7” and 10 ¾” tubings were successfully retrieved. Following with a Cement Bond Log (CBL) evaluation of the 13 ⅜” last cemented casing. The CBL identified insufficient cement bonding across key confinement layers. In line with the contingency plan, two Perforate-Wash-Cement (PWC) operations were performed by Archer – the well company to establish high-integrity, wall-to-wall cement barriers, ensuring long-term well integrity.
Challenges
Two contingency PWC operations were required. Thanks to thorough logistical preparation of equipment, materials, and personnel, both PWC operations were executed successfully, resulting in the required wall-to-wall cement plugs.
Role of WEP
Well engineering, planning, execution, writing designs, programs and HSE documents. During operations: office support & field supervision of operations.
