Other: Finite Element Model for casing running buckling analysis

Project Description

WEP is involved in finding solutions for running casing in extreme long reach wells. A part of the project consisted of modelling the buckling behaviour. A finite element model is now available that calculates the behaviour of the pipe more accurately than standard commercial software. The model can differentiate 3 phases of buckling and calculates the generated friction by buckling. The model gave new insights into the nature of buckling and can be used to optimize well trajectories for extreme wells. Also, the expected casing running loads can be calculated more precisely.

Challenges

Special study, complex modeling and calculations.

Role of WEP

WEP was one of the initiators and did all de modeling.
