Salt: Nedmag TR-5 workover
Project Description
The project started in October 2019 with wireline investigations (camera & WT measurements) to identify the status of the well. Based on the data the design for the workover started, followed by the procurement of the services and equipment. At the start of December, the work programme and HSE documents were submitted to SodM.
The TR-5 well was drilled in 1982 and the original 3 ½” injection and 4 ½” production tubing were still in the well, only the 2 7/8” dilution tubing (installed within the production tubing) was replaced in 1995.
The BPC snubbing unit was mobilised on 2 January. The workover started in a 24-hour schedule, which was changed to 12hr day time operations, to accommodate the required changes in the programming (planning, equipment, HSE).
The removal of the tubings required the most time, as they had to be removed in sections form the well. When the well was emptied wireline measurements were made to assure the condition of the casing, prior to placing the partial HMR cement plug at the bottom of the well to isolate the well from the cavern. The snubbing unit was demobilized on 22 April 2020.
Challenges
The tubings in the well were in challenging condition and did not allow to identify the full status of the well prior to the start of the workover. The tubings had to be retrieved in sections, requiring several last minute changes to the program.
Role of WEP
Engineering and planning support on program and HSE documents. Operational support onsite and back-office.
